Maria Montessori was born on 31 August 1870, in Chiaravalle, Italy. She attended the Regio Instituto Tecnico Leonardo da Vinci in Rome, Italy and in 1896 graduated from the medical program at the University of Rome. She began an educational philosophy. As early as 1909, Montessori's work began to attract the attention of international observers and visitors. Dr. McGrath was appointed Commissioner of Education by President Harry S. Truman in 1949 and retained by President Dwight D. Eisenhower. In 1953 Dr. McGrath resigned in protest over cuts in the Federal education budget....
